PERSONALITY
Hakkai seems like a mild, polite and level-headed person who always looks out for the day-to-day well-being of those around him. He takes on the more motherly roles: cooking, cleaning up after others, making sure things are in order, and solving (or at least calming down) arguments. He is very protective and obvious about it, eagerly preferring to put himself in the way of danger rather than let others get harmed. He is polite and soft-spoken with a deceptively innocent demeanor. He is often the straight man, known for his dry observations and aphorisms in serious situations. Hakkai hides his sadness and guilt over his past with his ever smiling face. There are numerous occasions when Hakkai's mask slips and he lets his darker side out though. This side of Hakkai usually scares others because he is such an impassioned being. It is shocking to see such hostility in place of his usually placid temper. Though there are times when Hakkai gets angry, but keeps smiling, which creeps people out a bit, and seems to actually increase the threat.

RP PAST
He started out as a silent boy named Cho Gonou who used to be feared by the children in the orphanage. As he grew up he fell in love with a woman named Kanan and tried his best for them to live together. However she was kidnapped and raped by a local gang of thugs. Alone in his rage, Gonou murdered each and every person involved with Kanan's disappearance. Despite all of this, Gonou failed to rescue Kanan and she died in captivity.

In shock and bleeding from a huge gash in his stomach, he wandered out of the site of the massacre, into the rain. He was found by a kind stranger, who took care of him until he was well enough to at least move around. Afterwards he left without so much as an exchange of names with his savior. Upon leaving, he went to find Kanan's body and die beside her, only to find that the building had been burned down. He'd failed to save her once more.

After that, Gonou confessed his sins to a traveling monk and was 'reborn' as Cho Hakkai. He traveled for a few years, establishing a new life before coming to Cross. There he stayed, holding down a job as a primary school teacher. For about a year he lived a quiet domestic life before things took a sour turn and he once again took to travelling. Apparently, he found what he was looking for during that sabbatical and has now returned to Cross.

APPEARANCE
Hakkai has short brown hair and green eyes. He sometimes wears a monocle on his (false) right eye, but often prefers regular glasses. All in all, he doesn't stand out. Well, as long as he keeps his shirt on to hide the massive scar across his stomach from a near-death experience in the past.
